CSIRO and the Fleming Initiative team up to recognise female trailblazers in AMR

  08 March 2025

The Fleming Initiative and Australia’s CSIRO have launched the Female Trailblazers in AMR initiative, a global award program celebrating up to 20 women leading and inspiring action against antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR, caused by the misuse of antimicrobials, poses a major global health threat.

The program highlights contributions across various fields, including research, policy, education, law, and community engagement. Awardees will be featured on the Fleming Initiative website, fostering networking and collaboration.

Professor Dame Sally Davies, UK Special Envoy on AMR, is the patron of the inaugural initiative, which aims to inspire future generations. Nominations open on 6 March 2025, with winners announced in Q3 2025.

The five nominating organizations are:

  1. Access to Medicine Foundation – A non-profit promoting equitable access to healthcare.
  2. AMR Insights BV – A global advocacy and information platform on AMR.
  3. CARB-X – A global partnership supporting early-stage antibacterial research.
  4. One Health Trust (OHT) – A global health think tank addressing AMR and other health challenges.
  5. WHO Collaborating Centre for AMR, Doherty Institute, University of Melbourne – Part of an international network strengthening AMR surveillance and stewardship.
